G..T..R.. are just plain letters of the alphabet to most of us. Combine them together and they represent exhilarating performance, advanced technology and prestigious heritage. After years of repeatedly dominating the Japanese touring car races since 1989 and in 1991 wining the 24hr endurance race at the world famous Nürburgring in Germany, it right fully earned its legendary nickname “Godzilla“.
Six years after the Nissan GT-R officially came to our Aussie shores; it's fair to say that this brand new ultra-high-performance 2015 version still keeps blowing your mind. When you think that it couldn’t get any better, the re-tuned twin-turbocharged V6 engine now produces 404Kw of power and 628Nm of Torque which accelerates the GT-R from 0-100km/h in only 2.7 seconds. But don't try this at home. With its unmatched blend of technology and soul, the GT-R is built to be driven in real-world conditions, places other supercars wouldn’t dare to tread.
And for 2015, that drive is even better, as GT-R adds a new level of sophistication and refinement with no compromise in performance. The most significant changes to the 2015 Nissan GT-R isn’t readily apparent from the outside, but they are hard to miss once you are behind the steering wheel. Perhaps the most marked improvement is that Nissan's flagship supercar now feels considerably more refined in everyday driving. In fact, the more compliant ride, lighter steering effort at low speeds and quieter interior put this latest GT-R on a stronger footing with more expensive rivals from European luxury brands. The suspension stroke has been tweaked as well by about 50 percent.
The Nissan engineering team has also worked to make roll change linear with respect to steering angle; meaning that stability has vastly improved in braking corners. The suspension changes also help the inside wheels keep better traction when accelerating out of corners. Engineers claim a tremendous 10-decibel reduction in engine boom by active noise cancellation alone, while more noise insulation under the floor, beneath the trunk and drive tunnel, and at the firewall altogether further cuts road and engine noise. The GT-R engineers have also aimed to put an end to pitchiness and vertical G-forces; which translate to passenger comfort as well as added composure at any given speed.
There are only four master craftsmen in the world are allowed to hand-assemble the GT-R’s engine. They are known as Takumi – a Japanese term used to describe a master craftsman who has perfected his skills over years of painstaking work and dedication. And with over 100 years of combined Takumi experience in building engines, the passion is very, very strong. Each GT-R engine is assembled by a single craftsman and proudly bears a plaque carrying their signature. Perfection comes in many ways; each Takumi inspects each piece for quality and to guarantee precision. But it’s more than just exceptional skill that goes into the process that makes the GT-R so special. As one of the Takumi says, “We put our souls into each engine, hoping to deliver that excitement to customers.”
The entry-level Premium model's list of standard equipment includes 20-inch alloy wheels, semi-slick Dunlop tires, an adaptive suspension, Brembo brakes, automatic LED adaptive headlights, LED running lights, a rearview camera and keyless ignition/entry. Inside you'll find dual-zone automatic climate control, leather/simulated-suede upholstery, an eight-way power driver seat and four-way power front passenger seat, heated front seats, cruise control, a 7-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, a navigation system and an 11-speaker Bose sound system with a CD player, satellite radio and a USB/iPod interface. An active noise-cancelling system is also standard for 2015
